So you've decided to play lacrosse, congratulations you're halfway there! Here is a list of some common terminology that you're likely to hear:

Stick Check: Using your stick to hit the opponents stick or the gloves of the hand holding the stick. This can only be done if they have the ball.

Body Check: Using your hands to push (not punch) the opponent. This can only be from teh front or side, not on teh back or rear of the shoulder.

Cradle: Method used to keep the ball inside the pocket of the stick by rocking it back and forth.

Crease: The circle around the goal. Only the goalie can stand in this nine-foot radius with the ball. Defensive players can run through their own crease but may not stand in it.

Crosscheck: An illegal move using the shaft of the stick to puch your opponent, often called.

Slash: The penalty call if you swing your stick wildly in an attempt to check a player. Note it is possible to sent off for a slash even if you don't make contact.

Penalty Time: The amount of time you have to serve a penalty. In Lacrosse players get sent off and can usually come back on again.

Man Down: When a team has at least one player in the penalty box.

Zone Defense: When the defense players move into position if they are a man down.

Thats all for now, I'll add more later no doubt

Help - Slightly confusing but it is short for "I am here and I am your Help" it means I am open and I want the ball, throw it to me!

Goose it - When you're all fighting for a groundball, if a teammate calls "Goose it" it means he is waiting behind you and you will be better off kicking the ball to him rather than trying to pick it up
